He later performed in the student musical <em>The Boy Friend<\/em> but decided to move away from musical theatre, joining an amateur dramatics group instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the age of 19, Simm enrolled in the Drama Centre London, where he studied the Stanislavski system of acting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His professional acting career commenced in 1992 with an appearance in the TV series <em>Rumpole of the Bailey<\/em>. This was followed by roles in <em>The Bill<\/em>, <em>Heartbeat<\/em>, and <em>Men of the World<\/em>. By 1993, Simm was securing roles in two TV series, and in 1995 he played a murderer in the film <em>Chiller<\/em>. That same year, he appeared in the ITV police drama <em>The Locksmith<\/em> and the film <em>Boston Kickout<\/em>, which won the Palmar\u00e9s award at the Valencia International Film Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1996, Simm made his professional stage debut at the Bush Theatre in <em>Goldhawk Road<\/em>. However, he soon returned to screen work, appearing in the BBC series <em>The Lakes<\/em> and the film <em>Human Traffic<\/em> in the late 1990s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Acting_Career_in_the_21st_Century\"><\/span>Acting Career in the 21st Century<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new century brought Simm a wealth of opportunities and roles. He appeared in the BBC drama <em>Clocking Off<\/em>, the political thriller <em>State of Play<\/em>, and other projects such as <em>Never Never<\/em>, <em>24 Hour Party People<\/em>, <em>Crime and Punishment<\/em>, and <em>Miranda<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2004, Simm starred in Channel 4\u2019s <em>Sex Traffic<\/em>, a drama that won a BAFTA award. His performance earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 20th Gemini Awards. Two years later, he played a detective in the BBC series <em>Life on Mars<\/em>, a role that further solidified his reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simm continued to deliver acclaimed performances in films and series, including <em>The Yellow House<\/em>, <em>Doctor Who<\/em>, <em>The Devil\u2019s Whore<\/em>, and <em>Skellig<\/em>. He also took part in the project <em>Everyday<\/em>, which was filmed over five years in real-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this period, Simm returned to the theatre stage, playing the lead in <em>Speaking in Tongues<\/em> and portraying Hamlet in <em>Sheffield Crucible<\/em> in 2010. Other notable works include <em>Mad Dogs<\/em>, <em>Exile<\/em> (for which he received a BAFTA nomination), <em>Betrayal<\/em>, <em>The Village<\/em>, and <em>Intruders<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Music_in_the_Actors_Life\"><\/span>Music in the Actor\u2019s Life<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond acting, Simm is also a talented musician. He was a founding member of the rock band <em>Magic Alex<\/em>, where he wrote songs and played guitar. The band performed live and released an album titled <em>Dated and Sexist<\/em>. However, in 2005, the band disbanded, and Simm shifted his focus back to acting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Simm is married to actress Kate Magowan, and the couple has two children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simm\u2019s journey from Leeds to becoming a celebrated actor and musician is a testament to his dedication and talent.
