Youth and beginning of the political career

During her tenure as the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Al established partnership relations with the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Then she signed a memorandum of friendship with Oleksandr Novak, who represented Kharkiv at the solemn ceremony. Having agreed on cooperation, Leeds thus acquired the status of Kharkiv’s sister city and at the same time became its 30th partner city. The event took place on December 6, 2023.
